Get Jiro: A Sushi Chef's Culinary Battle in Adult Swim's New Anime Series
Adult Swim has unveiled the first official trailer for its upcoming late-night animated series 'Get Jiro,' based on the graphic novels by the late Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose. This hyper-violent action anime centers around a stoic sushi chef named Jiro, who operates in a brutal, near-future Los Angeles. The series portrays Jiro as he navigates a chaotic restaurant war, where culinary skills are not only a means of survival but also a path to vengeance. Set against the backdrop of a classic LA strip mall, the narrative draws inspiration from the real-life sushi master Jiro Ono, known from the acclaimed documentary 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi.' In this dystopian world, elite chefs control the dining scene, and customers resort to extreme measures to secure tables at the most coveted restaurants. The series promises to blend themes of food, culture, and the darker sides of obsession, all while delivering a unique cinematic experience. The voice cast includes Brian Tee as Jiro, alongside Titus Welliver, Alison Pill, and Justin Kirk. Adult Swim's president, Michael Ouweleen, expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that it captures the essence of Bourdain's storytelling, which often begins with food and expands into broader cultural themes. 'Get Jiro' is set to premiere on October 3, 2026, directly on Toonami and HBO Max, offering a fresh take on the intersection of culinary arts and animated storytelling. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, with creative contributions from Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, who have previously worked on popular shows like 'Superstore.' As the anticipation builds, fans of both anime and food culture are eager to see how this unique story unfolds.
