A TikTok video by user Tori reveals her disappointment after discovering that the scallops she ordered at a sushi restaurant were imitation. The video, which has garnered significant attention, raises concerns about transparency in restaurant menus regarding seafood authenticity.

Viral TikTok Exposes Imitation Scallops at Sushi Restaurant

In a recent viral TikTok video, user Tori (@prncesstori_) shared her unsettling experience at a sushi restaurant where she ordered scallops and crab, only to find out that the scallops were imitation. Priced at $7, the dish was expected to deliver a gourmet experience, but Tori's discovery prompted her to seek a refund. The video, which has attracted over 235,000 views, shows Tori lifting the scallop by its pale white strip, revealing its questionable authenticity.

Accompanying her video, Tori urged restaurants to disclose whether their seafood is artificial, stating, "Restaurants PLEASE disclose if your scallops or crab will be ‘artificial.’ What is this?" In the comments, she mentioned that the restaurant later admitted to serving imitation scallops.

The incident sparked a debate among viewers, with some suggesting that the low price should have indicated the scallops were not real. One commenter remarked, "7 dollars for scallops, that should’ve been the biggest red flag," while another noted the common practice of serving frozen surimi cakes under the guise of real scallops.

However, many defended Tori's position, emphasizing that customers should not have to assume the quality of the food they are ordering. One viewer pointed out the potential health risks for those with allergies to imitation crab, which often contains wheat.

Imitation scallops are typically made from a blend of white fish, such as pollock and whiting, formed into a paste and shaped into scallop-like forms. Characteristics of imitation scallops can include a rubbery texture, bland taste, and a strikingly uniform appearance, which can mislead diners.

As Tori's video continues to circulate, it highlights the need for greater transparency in restaurant menus regarding the authenticity of seafood dishes, urging diners to be vigilant about what they are served.
