D’One Sushi in Byford to Close After a Decade of Serving the Community

Sep 1, 2026

D’One Sushi and Juice Bar, a beloved sushi restaurant in Byford, Perth, has announced its closure after nearly ten years of operation. The decision, attributed to a significant rent increase, has left the local community heartbroken, as the restaurant was a staple for East Asian cuisine in the area. Owner Dennis expressed gratitude to patrons and emphasized the difficulty of the decision, highlighting the impact of rising costs on the restaurant's values.

D’One Sushi in Byford to Close After a Decade of Serving the Community

D’One Sushi and Juice Bar, a cherished establishment in Byford, Perth, is set to close its doors in November, marking the end of an era for sushi lovers in the community. Since its opening in late 2016, D’One has become a go-to spot for residents craving hand-rolled sushi, fresh juices, and traditional Japanese dishes. The announcement of the closure came as a shock to the restaurant's 1,500 followers, who have supported the venue over the years.

Owner Dennis, who took over the restaurant in 2023, shared the news on social media, describing the decision as one of the hardest he has ever had to make. He cited a proposed lease increase of 60 percent as the primary reason for the closure, which he deemed financially untenable. "After carefully reviewing our financials and looking at the future of the business, we were faced with a difficult reality," he stated. The significant rent hike would have forced the restaurant to raise prices, which conflicted with the establishment's commitment to providing quality food at fair value.

In his heartfelt message, Dennis expressed gratitude to the Byford community for their unwavering support, stating, "You didn’t just support a small business. You helped turn a dream into reality and made D’One something truly special." The restaurant will continue to serve its loyal customers until its final day on November 1, 2026.

The closure of D’One Sushi is part of a troubling trend in Perth, where several restaurants have recently shut down, including the beloved vegan Chinese eatery Trio’s Takeaway. The loss of D’One has left many local foodies lamenting the diminishing dining options in the area, with comments flooding in from patrons expressing their sorrow over the news. As the community prepares to say goodbye to its only sushi restaurant, the impact of rising operational costs on small businesses remains a pressing concern.
