Sacai's 'Sacai to Go' Pop-up Showcases Japanese Cuisine in Paris
In a delightful intersection of fashion and food, Sacai's Chitose Abe has opened a pop-up called 'Sacai to Go' at Le Bon Marché in Paris, running until October 11. This initiative is part of the department store's 'Super Japon' promotion, aiming to celebrate Japanese culture from various angles. The pop-up is located on the third floor and features an enticing array of Japanese culinary offerings, including matcha, bento boxes, kissaten-inspired sandwiches, and an assortment of traditional Japanese sweets.
Curated by Sarah Andelman, founder of Just an Idea, the food selection brings together a community of Sacai's long-time friends and showcases vendors like Toraya, a traditional Japanese confectionery house with roots dating back to the 16th century. Other notable vendors include Rocky's Matcha, known for its high-quality matcha products; F.O.L.D.E.R.O.L, a natural wine bar and ice cream shop; Iné, a bento brand; and Benchy, a Japanese kissaten-inspired sandwich and coffee shop.
In addition to the culinary delights, the pop-up also features exclusive fashion merchandise, such as logo T-shirts inspired by MA-1 flight jackets and items from the latest Sacai x Carhartt WIP collaboration. Unique offerings include tote bags made from repurposed archive fabrics, plush key charms created in collaboration with art brand Peloqoon, and a boxed set of paper dolls dressed in miniature versions of Sacai's archival looks, complete with magnetic fasteners for mix-and-match fun.
Le Bon Marché is not only highlighting these food and fashion elements but also includes a variety of stationery, souvenirs, kawaii items, and avant-garde Japanese skincare products, alongside a hand-roll bar and other attractions. The pop-up taps into the longstanding love affair Parisians have with Japanese cuisine and culture, contributing to a vibrant culinary scene that has recently seen an influx of large-scale pop-ups featuring local brands.
