Yibu by Janet: A New Chinese Dining Experience in Dublin Featuring Hand-Pulled Noodles
Yibu by Janet, a new Chinese restaurant nestled in the Arthaus Hotel in Dublin, has quickly made a name for itself since its opening in mid-June. The restaurant is the brainchild of Jianan Liu, affectionately known as Janet, who previously gained acclaim for her dumplings and won the Takeaway Titans competition on RTÉ in 2022. The establishment has already expanded its dining options, with the daytime cafe now serving as an evening dining room due to its soaring popularity.
Upon entering, diners are greeted by a vibrant ambiance characterized by dramatic lighting and stylish decor, including bronze mobiles and illuminated shelving behind the bar. Janet's engaging personality shines as she interacts with guests, even using their dishes to explain menu items. One standout offering is the hand-pulled noodles, priced at €22, served with tender brisket that Janet expertly portions with kitchen scissors. The noodles are intentionally left long to showcase their house-made quality, and they are served in a spicy broth that adds a delightful kick.

The menu is thoughtfully curated, featuring sections dedicated to hand-pulled noodle bowls, bao, and Janet's signature dumplings. The cheeseburger dumplings, an inventive twist on a classic, deliver rich flavors of beef and melted cheddar, while the pork, kimchi, and chive dumplings are equally satisfying. Other notable dishes include battered aubergine popcorn, which is glazed in a sweet and sour caramel sauce, and the Texas Dragon brisket bao, which offers a smoky flavor profile, though it could benefit from a bit more kimchi.
Cocktail enthusiasts will appreciate the Japanese-inspired drinks crafted by mixologist Daire Smullen. The Shizuku, a twist on the old fashioned, features Nikka whiskey and unique flavorings, while the vibrant Japanese Slipper combines Midori, Cointreau, and fresh lime.
For dessert, the Basque cheesecake presents a creamy finish to the meal, though it leans closer to a New York-style cheesecake. Overall, Yibu by Janet provides a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a focus on creative dishes that encourage diners to return. The combination of hand-pulled noodles, homemade dumplings, and expertly crafted cocktails makes it a noteworthy addition to Dublin's culinary scene.
