Bua Thai Ramen & Robata Grill to Open at Historic Union Square Location
Bua Thai Ramen & Robata Grill is preparing to open its doors at a historically significant location in Union Square, specifically at 21 East 16th Street, where Danny Meyer’s renowned Union Square Cafe once thrived. The Thai ramen eatery has secured a 10-year lease for the expansive 4,840-square-foot space, marking an exciting expansion from its existing venue on the Upper East Side.
The lease agreement was facilitated by David Ellis Real Estate, with the asking rent set at $250 per square foot. Brandon Singer, the founder and CEO of Retail by MONA, expressed the unique significance of this location, noting its long-standing role in shaping the dining landscape of Union Square. "Very few restaurant spaces in New York City carry the history and significance of 21 East 16th Street," Singer stated. He believes that Bua will bring the necessary energy, quality, and hospitality to continue the legacy of this iconic site.
The Union Square area remains a hotbed for new dining concepts, attracting operators seeking prime locations with high visibility and foot traffic. Max Kreinces, also from Retail by MONA, emphasized that Bua's concept aligns perfectly with the building's character and the neighborhood's culinary offerings.
Previously, this site was home to Union Square Cafe from 1985 until 2015, when it relocated to its current address at 101 East 19th Street. The space is currently occupied by the Japanese restaurant chain TsuruTonTan. The arrival of Bua Thai Ramen & Robata Grill is anticipated to contribute to the vibrant dining scene of Union Square, offering locals and visitors a new option for enjoying authentic Thai ramen and robata grill dishes.
