Udon Shin to Launch First New York City Location in Flatiron District

Udon Shin to Launch First New York City Location in Flatiron District

Udon Shin, a popular Japanese restaurant with only two other U.S. locations, is preparing to open its first eatery in New York City. The restaurant has secured a 10-year lease for a 2,500-square-foot space at 37 West 17th Street, situated in Manhattan's bustling Flatiron District. This location was previously occupied by the now-closed Italian restaurant Basta Pasta.

The asking rent for the new space was $30,000 per month, reflecting the high demand for quality dining options in this vibrant area. Udon Shin, which originated in Tokyo, has already made a name for itself in the U.S. with its first location in Mesa, Arizona, where it has been reported that customers often wait in long lines to enjoy its offerings. A second U.S. location is also in the works for Utah.

Aaron Gavios of Gavios Realty Group, who acted as the tenant broker in this deal, expressed confidence in the restaurant's potential for success in New York City. "We are expecting long waits and long lines when Udon Shin opens here in the Flatiron District. It should be the latest Japanese foodie sensation," Gavios stated.

Udon Shin's Impact on Manhattan's Vibrant Dining Scene

The landlord, the Moinian Group, was represented by Samuel Chera and David Green of KSR. Green commented on the significance of Udon Shin's arrival, noting, "The continued interest from exciting international restaurant concepts speaks to the strength of Manhattan’s retail market and the demand for quality locations. We believe Udon Shin will be a great addition to the neighborhood and look forward to seeing its success."

Built in 1900, the property at 37 West 17th Street is a seven-story office and commercial building located just two blocks west of Union Square Park and about six blocks south of the iconic Flatiron Building. In addition to Udon Shin, other tenants in the building include the Yinova Center, an acupuncture clinic, and De Wolfe Music USA, a British music production company.
